Biodyssey / מיקום: תל אביב

אראל בריל

This project, which I named “Biodyssey”, is both a practical and abstract journey I took over the course of two semesters, searching for the inspiration to create ground-breaking architecture, using forms that are found in the natural world around us. Since I have a B.Sc. In Biotechnology and am soon-to have a B.Arch. in architecture, I thought it will be fascinating to see what happens when I combine the two.

Some of the revelations I came across are presented in this board, where I work to combine a natural life-form with a modern city, creating what I later called “the urban coral reef” in the Montefiore district of the Tel-Aviv metropolis.

What attracted me to this neighborhood is the fact that it still preserves some of its pristine untouched qualities, despite being located on a very main traffic route. As a first-of imaginary experiment, I offer to plant in the area a new living “urban tissue”, introducing its own architectural flora and fauna comprised of erect still-nature in the form of living towers. The new constructs will “grow” on the implanted grid alongside the existing one, allowing the modular evolution of structures that propagate according to biological principles, manipulating the dense urban space in a multi-layer discipline while allowing the return of the green areas & shopping streets back to the city.
